How did we get here?
2015
The Ride Side hosted our first ever snowboard-ski trips in Niseko, Japan. What started out as 80 people over 6 weeks soon snowballed to a community of 10,000 riders and growing.
Through our trips, we introduced the sport of snowboarding and skiing to people in Singapore, setting out to provide more access and education about the sport, as well as grow a community of likeminded people. After all, what’s good about living life fully without having people to share the experiences with?
2016
Our first full season in Niseko, Japan with over 200 people joining us in 3 months! We launched the first ever 2nd-hand marketplace in Singapore where the community can come together to buy, sell & trade snowboard & ski equipment amongst themselves, while forging bonds and building connections.
2017
The Ride Side hosted our first ever season in New Zealand, marking a shift in the demand and growth of the community, with trips at the start of the year to Japan, and trips in the middle of the year to New Zealand. A monumental year where all trips were 100% booked.
2018
The Ride Side began plans to build a home for skiiers and snowboarders in Singapore – securing distributorships with global snowboard brands such as Burton, VANS, Gentemstick, Bataleon, Rome & ANON. This marked our foray into retail and e-commerce, with the ability to educate more people about the importance of equipment for the sports
2019
Not only are we here to grow the community, we are also on an adventure to elevate the skill level of snowboarding and skiing in our sunny island. With beginner snowboard camps in Tomamu, advanced tours in Niseko and exploring the powdery terrain of Myoko, The Ride Side hosted over 700 people over the span of 3 months.
Not only were we growing the snowboard-ski travel scene in Singapore, we also secured over 25 global snowboard brands including crowd favorites such as CAPiTA, UNION, DEELUXE & Korua Shapes – becoming the first full-fledged snow retail & e-commerce company from Singapore.
2020
As fate will have it, Covid-19 stopped us in our tracks. Without travel, the business came to a standstill overnight. Thankfully to the community we have built over the years, we saw people rally around us and provided us with advice, help and support in all shapes and forms.
Not people to bow to circumstances, we decided to shift our focus and treat this as an opportunity for expansion. Looking inwards, we began our journey into summer sports such as skateboarding, surfskating and longboarding – as extensions to the identity we have created.
In December 2020, we opened the doors to Halfpipe Skate Bar, Singapore’s first ever skate bar & cafe in 111 Somerset.
2021
The growth of surfskating took off in Singapore, with snowboarders, skiiers and surfers pouring in to get a taste of what we are all missing out on due to travel restrictions. Our surfskate lesson program saw over 400 students each month from first-timers to advanced riders looking to improve their skills and pick up a new hobby. Our community sessions and retail program also allowed us to grow the community organically, regionally & in Singapore.
With the momentum of our skate program, we opened our 2nd store at Kallang Wave Mall in October 2021.
2022
With the resumption of travel, The Ride Side saw over 100 people joining us in LAAX, Switzerland. Being able to share our passion for snowboarding and skiing with a group of likeminded individuals was a bittersweet moment, and NGL, it feels ***** good to be back on the mountains.
2023
Opening our doors to Asia’s first snow, surf & skate attraction in Orchard Road.
Surfing, snowboarding & skiing are finally possible in Singapore.
